TB2K Chat Rules of Engagement
These are the rules and legal terms and conditions of use of TB2K's chat facilities. Using the TB2K chat facilities indicates acceptance of these terms. These rules should be familiar to TB2K posters, as they overlap the Rules of Posting for the board itself.
Declaration of Content
The TB2K chat is a publicly accessible chat. Anything said on this chat should be considered public information. Please do not post any Copyrighted material unless you hold the rights to that material.
Any discussions being carried out in the chat are the opinions of the people involved, and may not necessarily represent the opinions of the TB2K operators or staff. This chat is an example of freedom of speech in action - therefore, if you have some disgareement with something said here, take it up with the person(s) that said it. The operators and staff assume no responsibility for the validity and accuracy of any information presented therein.
Chat Staff
The chat is staffed by channel operators (chanops) and IRC server operators (IRCops). The channel operators can, at their discretion, remove any user from any channel they have chanop status in. (Chanops are listed with the symbol @ in front of their nicknames.) If you have been removed from a channel and feel it was by mistake or for the wrong reasons, take it up with the chanop that kicked you out.
IRCops may, again at their discretion, remove users from the entire chat server and ban them if necessary. It's the IRCops' job to keep the server running smoothly and if that means removing the occasional user for serious misbehavior, so be it. Since removing a user from the whole server is generally a last-ditch-effort step, IRCops' decisions on removing a user are final and generally not subject to debate.
Use of the Chat
This chat is for information, real-time communication in the event of any crisis or emergency, and research purposes as well as general communication. This chat is not for advertising goods and services (unless cleared by the chat staff beforehand), nor is it to be used to personally attack someone (whether in the sense of a vitriolic flame directed at the person or a computer-to-computer attack).
Things not permitted in this chat:
- Outrageous amounts of profanity, in defiance of context and common sense;
- Illegal stuff, such as links to pirated software ("warez");
- Pornography in any form (this includes using DCC to distribute files illegally between IRC clients);
- Threats of violence directed against any user;
Denial-of-Service attacks
Anyone found to be using the chat as a springboard for a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack of any sort against any target, whether in the same chat or elsewhere on the Internet, may be kicked and banned from the server without warning. DoS attacks that fall under this category include comandeering a channel by text-flooding (or "scrolling") it, flooding a specific user, and attempting to use exploits against a specific user.
That's it. Basically common-sense stuff really.
